Important Upgrade Notice for ShareFile for Mac
If you are upgrading to ShareFile for Mac Version 25.03.20 you will be prompted to remove data from the previous version of the app.
ShareFile for Mac download:
Download the latest version of ShareFile for Mac here.
What happened?
Due to issues in previous versions of the application, the file and folder structure of the drive become corrupted. This lead to a variety of issues ranging from items not syncing to the cloud to missing contents to disappearing items. To properly resolve this issue we will need to remove data from previous versions of the app.
The upgrade process
If you have data from previous versions of the app, an alert will appear prompting you to authorize removal of data from previous versions of the app.
No action will be taken until you agree to proceed and confirm that you are ready for old data to be removed. While the app will recover files that have not yet been saved to the cloud, other downloaded data will be removed. If you need to do anything else before upgrading, you may select Quit. This will give you an opportunity to review the contents of the ShareFile drive and copy over any data you wish. The next time you open the app you will be presented with the choice again.
After confirming the check box and clicking the proceed button, the app will remove data from the previous version of the app and relaunch. The app will relaunch and prompt you to recover data. Click OK if you would like to try and attempt to recover unsaved files. Click Not now if you would like to skip this process. The app will then ask you how you would like to handle version conflicts. For any files that have unsaved local changes, ShareFile for Mac will compare the date modified of these files against what is currently saved in ShareFile. The app may overwrite these files or skip these files. Select the appropriate option.
A window displays that will track the process of copying the files. Once all of the files have been copied you may close the window. After a file is copied the app will upload the file and you may view its progress in Finder or in the Queue tab of the dashboard.
If you encounter a problem during this process or need to stop for any reason, click Stop. You will have another opportunity to copy unsaved files the next time the ShareFile for Mac app opens.
FAQ regarding your data
Why does the old data need to be removed?
Local data about the account file/folder structure is kept by both the ShareFile for Mac app and macOS. Data kept by macOS had become out of sync with data in the local app and both data sources were out of sync with data that was on the cloud. To resolve these issues we determined that the best course of action was to remove the old data and start fresh.
What happens to old data?
During the process of removing the drive macOS will create an archived backup that will contain any user data that was not processed. After upgrading, the app will ask about transferring unsaved files as described above. The archived backup is not removed when the app is uninstalled.
How can I access this cache folder?
After the old data has been removed, a new option named Open Archive Folder will be added to ShareFile for Mac’s Help menu. Click on this to open the folder where this archive is located.
Although not easily accessible through Finder, the path is: /Users/<username>/Library/CloudStorage
. The folder will include the name “ShareFile” and will have a timestamp for when the removal took place. A README file is placed inside the folder with additional information. ShareFile for Mac will not delete this folder if it is uninstalled.
I had to stop the migration process, how can I start it again?
Quit the ShareFile for Mac application and open it again.
After migration, How can I see which files were not transferred?
Each time the app attempts to migrate files, a file named Results with a timestamp is created in the archive folder. This file provides a list of items that could not be transferred and items that were skipped.
