Client hub sensitive data field detection for custom fields

Article applies to:

  • Client Hub Account administrators

  • Clent Hub users who can create or edit custom attributes for Clients and Contacts

When you add or edit a Client Hub custom attribute, sensitive data field detection checks its name and dropdown values for signs that it could collect sensitive or personal information. If it detects a potential risk, Client Hub warns you before the attribute is saved. You can reconsider the attribute before creating or updating it, helping reduce accidental collection of information that may be visible to other users.

Detection evaluates the attribute name and dropdown values, not information later entered into the field. It can flag names or values that suggest the field may collect information such as Social Security numbers, tax IDs, driver's license numbers, financial account details, or other personal identifiers.

Detection uses two methods:

  • Baseline checks compare the attribute name and dropdown values with allowlists and blocklists maintained by the Client Management API. These checks always run.
  • Optional semantic analysis powered by the ShareFile Agent Framework (SAF) can identify contextual clues, including less obvious names, abbreviations, synonyms, and non-English terms.

The Enable sensitive data field detection setting controls only whether Client Hub uses SAF semantic analysis. When this setting is off, the baseline checks still run.
